Lightweight cotton throws and shawls, woven thread by thread on traditional looms and made to be kept.

Handwoven in Addis Ababa
Muya — the Ge'ez word for talent — was founded in 2005 by fashion designer Sara Abera to bring Ethiopia's living weaving tradition to the world on fair terms. We bring weavers and craftspeople together, retrain them to work in better conditions, and build the skills, stability and dignified livelihoods that keep a thousand-year craft alive.
Read our story →Earth-made, by hand
Natural fibres, slow handwork, almost no waste. Every piece is spun, dyed, woven and finished by hand before it is checked — no two are exactly alike.

Our artisans
Fair payment. Safe workshops. Skills preserved across generations. Muya exists so the people who carry Ethiopia's craft heritage can build stable livelihoods from their mastery — and so the hand that made a piece is never anonymous.

Natural fibres, hand processes, low waste, and objects made to be kept. Sustainability isn't a campaign at Muya — it's simply the result of how we work, protecting both the maker and the planet.
Explore Sustainability & Fair Trade →In their words
Muya's work has earned the confidence of designers, importers, Fair Trade assessors and international partners who have seen the workshop, the craft, and the standards behind the object.
Muya Ethiopia is one of the few enterprises on the continent that combines high product quality with outstanding designs. Sara incorporates the old weaving traditions of Ethiopia but every year you find an astounding range of new interpretations perfectly matching the expectations of our clients. Trendy in terms of colour ranges, classic in terms of quality. But for us the most striking is the way employees are treated by the owners. Go and see it yourself!
